I just have to vent...

So if you haven't been to the Provo Library story time, then you probably won't understand. Perhaps though you have had a similar experience at your local library. We have two libraries near our house, Orem & Provo. Provo is much better and the story time can't be beat. Just ask the 300 mom's the fight over the space that can only accommodate about 50 people! Here is where our story begins. I go to the library once a week usually to get books for all the kids and to take Brooklynn to story time. It's always crowded, WAY crowded, so I usually leave right after I drop the kids off at school and head over so I have plenty of time to stake out my spot. I have a bad back and hate to sit on the floor so I usually try to snag a spot on the couch. It's also a better view and I can sneak out if Brooklynn gets too antsy. So I get there 20 minutes early (which is very risky since this is about the entire length of Brooklynn's attention span) and stake out my spot on the couch. Once you sit, you don't move! About 2 minutes before it starts, Brooklynn says to me (in the little dainty Gleed voice), "I poopy Mommy!" Besides the fact that everyone in a ten foot radius has just heard this, you can't deny the overpowering odor. Now I am faced with the decision of waiting through 20 minutes of story time with a stinky toddler or risk losing my spot! (Standing room only now). So I decide to do the decent thing for everyone involved and rush to the bathroom to change her. I strategically place my coat, her blanket and a large pile of books on our spot; announce rather loudly, directed at Brooklynn, but really intended for those on either side of me, "let's hurry and go change you so we can get right back for story time". So, I whisk her off to the bathroom and in record time change the diaper and return....only to find my seat taken!!! I mean, is it that hard for the two moms who were sitting on either side of me to just say, "Oh, someone was sitting there, she just ran to change a diaper!" So I drag Brooklynn over collect our things and start to walk away when the mom turns to me and says, "Oh, were you sitting here?" I wanted to scream at her, "No, I just left my things here on the nice comfy couch so I could sit on the miserable floor with the other 300 moms who didn't have enough sense to plan ahead and get her early enough to snag the NICE COMFY COUCH!!!" Instead, I nicely said, yes and walked away. We lasted 2 minutes since Brooklynn couldn't really see now and left for home. I love the library.

Oh my gosh Michelle, I can't believe nobody even said anything! I'd be irate as well. It's super cute to me that you take Brooklyn to story time though, I've always wanted to try, but never am brave enough to take my 3 toddlers anywhere public on my own :)

That would make me so mad!! It happens all the time and I don't know why people don't say anything. Glad you are doing the storytime thing, though. That is so sweet.
