I know this is totally pathetic, but I'm not a very good mom. I am really not good at baking with my children. Mostly, I'm an obsessive neat freak and HATE the kitchen getting messy when I cook. And lets face it, kids are messy. So I don't often make cookies with my kids, especially sugar cookies, I NEVER make those. That is one of the many things I miss so much about my mother-in-law. She ALWAYS baked sugar cookies with the kids, EVERY time we visited. They loved that.

But I broke down and made cookies with Brooklynn Friday because she has been feeling a little left out since the kids have started school and sports again. Surprisingly, she did fantastic! She was such a good, CLEAN little helper. She always has liked to be clean for the most part, so thankfully, it has carried over into the kitchen. We had a nice time and it has motivated me to try harder to be more patient. I had a really good, bonding time with her. I told you I was pathetic.

I don't think you are pathetic, at least no more pathetic than I am, not that that'll make you feel any better. Poor LaRue is ALWAYS asking to help in the kitchen and it's just so much faster and cleaner when I work alone:) Grandma is really great about letting her help though, so at least that's something, right?
You silly, silly girls! :o) What are you going to treasure, the mess or the memories??? What are your kids going to treasure, a grouchy mom or a happy baking memory??? Capture the moments, they fly away all too quickly!
Always take pictures! A picture is worth a thousand words! Look how happy Brooklynn is!
Love ya!
Mom :o)
sigh- I am the same way. I have to REALLY try hard to let the kids help out when making cookies ~ because I think it just doubles the mess ~ but it's always worth it. You are a super cute mommy.
Aww, bonding time with Brooklynn. I bet she feels so special spending time with you like this!
I didn't know we were so much alike re messy kitchen and getting photo's taken. I am obsessive about my kitchen being clean and spotless too. I think I've baked with only ONE of my chilren only ONCE, which is quite sad, so I'm going to re-read your mum's comment and try to let it sink in! My mother-in-law stayed recently and fried lots of things without covering the pan. I was SOOO crouchy over it, and boy did I clean my kitchen spotless when she left! I also hate having my photo taken because I never like the way I look. Tony tries to take photo's of me and I always say, "Don't take a photo of me!" Silly AGAIN, just like the kitchen...your mum is so right and has so much wisdom! P.S Re your latest photo: You have a whole new look with your new hair do...very stylish and the red colour really brings out your eyes.
