We've always wanted to take a trip to the Grand Canyon but haven't ever done it so we decided that we should try even though time was tight. The drive down was beautiful and the weather was very nice. We stopped at the first look-out just inside the entrance and walked around. We visited the gift store and climbed the "Watchtower". It took me exactly 3 minutes to realize I would be a wreck the whole time. The canyon was gorgeous and it would have been fun to hike around with Chris, but having the kids made me so nervous. The fences are there to say "Hey, there is a dangerous drop-off here so you'd better be careful". They are NOT there to protect you from charging them at full-speed and climbing on them, leaning way over, etc. I just kept thinking someone was going to fall through. Case in point:
have been trapped in a car all day, could easily slip through!
We also stopped by another look-out further down the road. More heart-stopping adventures. Tyler touched a squirrel and the kids kept a look-out for Mountain Lions as we had passed a sign saying they were in the area. The kids were oblivious to my anxiety and enjoyed every minute. I'm glad we went but glad we didn't spend a whole day here like originally planned. It is gorgeous though.

Wow, I'm really glad to have read your account of your grand canyon visit because it is SO beautiful! But, now that I know about the fences, I won't plan on taking my kids there until the youngest is seven or eight. Gives us a while to plan I guess:)
Okay, I have to admit, I just about had a heart attack when I saw the picture of McKenna in the "kid's safe zone," until I read what you typed.
Anyways, cute pictures! It looks like you guys had so much fun!
