Arizona Trip - Part 3

The Hoover Dam:

We decided to take an alternate route on the way home which we thought would be shorter but with the Gleed family, nothing is shorter. We stopped by the Hoover Dam on our way through since we had never been before. It was a pretty long and slow drive down into the dam and out again. We decided to stop and get out and walk around...with a million other people. We didn't have time for a tour but it was amazing anyway. As impressive as the dam was, the new Colorado River Bridge they are building over it, was more impressive. They are building a new road to ease congestion through the area. It is pretty congested and it's probably needed, but it reminded me of the movie "Cars" where the two cars go up to the old lookout to that hotel/restaurant to see the view along the old route 66. It was a pretty view but nobody sees it anymore because they built the new highway that was straighter and faster and now everyone missed the pretty scenery and the poor little town became a ghost town. I think that's how it will be when the new bridge goes in. It's so high and you'll be going faster and straighter and won't take the time to notice the view. Besides that, IT LOOKS TERRIFYING!!! My pictures seriously don't look as impressive as it was. Just the building process is unbelievable and it is so dang high. It is just amazing to see them actually pouring concrete in mid-air. Those workers must be getting paid a TON. At least I hope so. Again, this touristy spot took a few years off my life making sure everyone was safe. Luckily the kids were more nervous here and stayed pretty close to us. The kids were pretty excited to be able to stand in two states at the same time. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get far enough back to get everyone in the shot (for fear of being run over by cars). Oh, and I think the most memorable part of the experience would be trying to see how many times the kids could say "Dam" without getting in trouble for swearing. They had fun with that in Page, AZ too where there was another dam and there were lots of businesses like "The Dam Bar & Grill", "The Dam Motel", etc. Tyler thought hey, why not the Damn Dam? Ooops, doesn't work that way buddy. Anyway, enjoy the "Dam" pictures!

We left Tyler in Nevada and Lauren in Arizona

Ahh, squeezing in the word dam where ever possible, a classic pastime. Those pictures of the bridge construction are so awesome, I can't believe they can figure out how to do stuff like that - at the same time though, they make me feel a little ill...
