Activity Days

Yesterday I went with the Activity Day Girls on their Geo-caching activity. I have never been and was excited to be able to go with them, even though I was pretty much useless. I hadn't ever even turned on the GPS until we got there. We split into two groups, the older three girls came with me and the younger three went with their regular leader. The other leader plugged in the coordinates, pointed me in the right direction and said "have fun"! At first I was like, no problem, then I realized, wait a minute, I have NO clue what I'm doing? (Don't worry, we couldn't get lost...I knew where we were...just not how to find a cache!) We figured it out though and found the first cache pretty quick. There was some concern on the part of the girls regarding snakes and bears, but we managed.
Here is the first cache we found. (Lauren, McKenzie and Samantha) It was pretty easy and the GPS told us when we were within about 18 inches.

The second cache was a little more tricky. I expected it to be as easy as the first. We were on a narrow trail with a fence on one side and a little drop off on the other. We got stuck for a while because I expected that it would get us within a foot or two but this one only got us within 18 feet. We weren't sure if we were supposed to over the fence or down the cliff. We finally figured it out and found the cache.
Is it this way?

No, maybe that way.

Samantha: "I think it's down here!"

Here it is!

Cache #2 - Samantha, Lauren & McKenzie

I think the girls had a fun time. I want to go again with the kids for family night or something. McKenna also came with us but she went with the younger girls. She had so much fun and can't wait to go again. Now I just need to figure out what all those other buttons are for on the GPS!

I totally want to try that sometime, it seems like a fun way to get the kids out and about. One day I'll be with it enough to have a GPS... maybe. Good for you for figuring it out on your first time!
