The Highly Anticipated Trip of a Lifetime...for McKenna

McKenna has been looking forward to this trip for the past three years. Since she was old enough to know what it was all about and that someday she would get her turn.

Chris' parents have always had a special tradition for the grandchildren that turn eight. During the summer they would fly the 8yr olds from that year (usually 2 or 3) over to Hawaii and have them stay for about 4-6 weeks to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa. Once they moved from Hawaii the trips got shorter and the some of the last of the older grandkids went to Arizona. Since Chris is next to the youngest and there is a big gap between him and the older kids, our kids don't have any grandkids their ages so McKenna went with one of Chris' nieces, Carrie's little girl, Brynlie. Now that his Dad has retired to Idaho, that is where our kids have gone. (Lauren's trip here and Tyler's was before I started blogging.) They get to spend two weeks being spoiled rotten by Grandpa.
Unfortunately, McKenna lost our camera during her trip but luckily Carrie sent me the pictures from Brynlie. I still haven't developed the disposable camera Grandpa bought her so maybe I'll do a follow-up post later with those. But for now, here's what I have. From what I hear, they had a blast! They got along really well and Grandpa even said it was the best bunch he'd ever had. No fighting or horrible homesickness, they both did great!
First things first, Grandpa has to take these city slickers and turn them into real cowgirls. So off to the store for boots and hats. Since they were in town they took in a movie, Cars 2 and ate tons of junk food. Grandpa likes to make sure these kids have lots of good memories of these trips and so pretty much they get to rule the roost. Anything they want to do, anyplace they want to go, he's game. They enjoy lots of freedom and get to make all the decisions. I'm sure they'll remember this trip for a very long time. I know my older kids do and the older grandkids who are all married, all remember their trips.
They did lots of fun things like playing at the ranch, swimming every day, rodeos, road trips, eating out nearly every meal, 4-wheeling, dinner with the Governor of Idaho, Lava Hot Springs, riding the golf cart, shopping, Yellowstone and more. These two cute bears were on the bed in the hotel room at Yellowstone.
I'm pretty sure that McKenna didn't brush her hair the whole trip. She told me she lost her hair brush and I'm guessing it was on Day 1. :0)

McKenna is a VERY picky eater but while on her trip, I'm pretty sure she put on five pounds. She got to eat all the junk food she wanted and then some. Not to worry though, it's all come off since she's been home and back to hating everything I cook. I'm so glad she got to go on this trip. She loves her Grandpa so much and would rather live in Malad than here with us so she was one happy girl. She had a WONDERFUL time

I remember being totally jealous of Lauren when she got to go on this trip, and now I'm totally jealous of McKenna too:) It sounds like the best trip ever, and Yellowstone looks awesome!

That was such a great post! What a treasured memory for those sweet girls! What a 'wonderful' grandpa! I hope he's up for this with Brooklynn in 3 years! My heart just melted and tears sprang to my eyes when I saw the two bears on the bed! I don't know why, but I suddenly got emotional. (Happy tears here!)What a softie and heart their grandpa has! ♥

Wait, I thought Dara and I were grandpa's favorite bunch! Just kidding, we totally fought too much. Lol. Love the pictures! I'm glad she and Brynlie had a good time. :)
