The Saturday before Halloween we finally carved our pumpkins. Well, everyone but me. I chose to go the easy route and used our Mr. Potato head pieces.

The actual day was pretty busy. I helped with the Kindergarten party and made "bones & blood" for one of the snacks. We had close to 40 kids running through 7 stations so things got a little crazy but it was fun. Our head room mom is so awesome. She always has everything so organized. Poor girl, she was in charge of 3 parties that day!!
Later that day I was in charge of McKenna's class party. I decided to switch things up because, really...how many times can you frost sugar cookies and play "Don't Eat Pete"?! I decided on a Harry Potter theme since a lot of kids start reading those books around 3rd grade. I had the kids line up outside at "Platform 9 3/4" before they entered "Hogwarts" and were sorted into "Houses". I made a couple of signs and a sorting hat and badges for each child and the house they had been sorted into.
Then we had 4 stations...Potions class where the kids made GAK/Slime, Transfiguration class where we turned pencils into broomsticks and pipe cleaners into Harry Potter glasses, and Defense Against the Dark Arts where they played a magic wand game. Then we had them visit "The Three Broomsticks" where they made magic wands (pretzel sticks dipped in frosting and decorated with sprinkles) and pumpkin juice in a cauldron. We had Harry Potter music playing in the background and I even dressed up a little Harry Potter-ish.
I think the kids all had a good time and I was pleased with how it turned out. I had great help from some other moms. I even had one girl tell me she hated Harry Potter but that this party was fun. Success!Later that night we headed out to go trick-or-treating. We had seriously THE BEST weather in 10 years. Nobody wore coats, the weather was gorgeous and nobody complained about walking! Yay for Halloween!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE your room party idea and your costume! You killed it Michelle! I'm coming to you for ideas if I ever sign up to be in charge of a party for that age!
