Lions and Hippos and Elephants, Oh MY!

McKenna had a Science open house at school last week where the kids got to share their Habitat Reports. This is quite an involved project for a third grader. McKenna is still obsessed with Elephants so choosing the African Savanna was a no-brainer for her! You can definitely tell she is not a first child because she did the nearly the entire report all by herself. She did all the research, had a rough draft and had an opinion on everything. When Tyler did this I think mom and dad did nearly 90% of the work! I was too busy and she said she had it under control so we let her run with it. Chris typed it up for her but she went back in and made all the corrections and adjustments herself. Some of the funny things I loved about it were her 45 exclamation points after EVERY exciting detail and her list of "non-living" organisms...dead leaves, dead bugs, dead animals, etc. She knew just where she wanted every animal in her diorama too. We are really proud of her hard work.

Please note that she even coordinated her outfit with her report! :0)
She had to do a pretty detailed report (hers was 13 pages), a poster and a 3-D object like a diorama. (No matter how hard I tried, I could NOT talk her out of clip-art images for her report or poster. She would find the most whimsical pictures for each animal. She definitely has a mind of her own!)

Wow! What a smart little girl! I can't believe she did that all on her own! Her momma taught her good!
