My daughter is my mothers daughter...

So today was one of those days that your mother promised would come to you when you were little. Yet you still argued to the end that it wouldn't. Besides, what do they know anyway. Well, guess what? She was right and the day has come.

Here's the scene: My bathroom, working on fixing the 3rd of three little girls hair for Sunday. (Which I claim for me, it's my way at least one day of the week.) So I start to fix Lauren's hair. Things are going amazingly smoothly for a Sunday morning, until she notices that I'm actually doing something with her hair instead of leaving it straight and bushy. She says: "no, mom, not this, I hate it when you do it this way"! Which, for the record, is just straightening it and then pulling just the bangs area into a little ponytail and letting it all hang straight and beautiful, just like spun gold, which is what everyone tells her when she wears it this way. Silly me, I apparently am turning her into a hideous monster.

Anyway, back to the scene. I explain what I am doing and that it is "My Day". Lauren (in a crying, whining voice): "No, mom, YOU ARE RUINING MY LIFE!!!" (more crying)

I can't help it, but I laugh. The out loud kind that catches you off guard and apparently infuriates above mentioned daughter. I am just dumbstruck that my mom was actually right and that I had a child "Just like me". The exact words I'm sure I screamed at my own mother, more than once in my youth. I am also worried though, because I wasn't prepared for this at 7! Aren't they supposed to still love you and worship you at seven? I guess not. Anyway, I continue laughing and continue to fix her hair through the crying, the whining, the gnashing of teeth. Then comes the clincher.

Lauren: "When I'm a mom, I am NEVER going to do this to my kids. They can wear their hair anyway the WANT!!!" (yes, she is yelling this.)

I of course laugh even harder and say that I just can't wait for that day. She holds her ground and insists that she'll let her kids do "whatever they want"!

So, my turn has come, my mothers curses have come true, and I have a child that, is "JUST LIKE ME"!! Arrggghhhhh!

(Side note: Of course I still won, her hair did look nice) :0)

Hehehe...Lauren is growing up so fast! I remember my mom telling me that, also...I don't think I will ever be prepared to see myself reflected in Mason!

This is such a crack up - I can't believe what a precoscious little girl you have on your hands, it sounds like you are up for the challenge, though. ;)

Hey Michelle! It was so fun to see your comment on our blog! That is really funny how you came upon it. Your kids have grown up so much, I remember when it was just Tyler and Lauren. We really do miss the people that were in that ward, we met some wonderful people there. So where do you guys live now? Are you still there in Orem? That is a funny story about Lauren, I know I hate doing my Lauryn's hair, I can only imaging when she can start telling me thing like that! And you have three to do! Man! It's funny because when we named Lauryn I was trying to think of anyone I knew with that name, and your little Lauren came to my mind. You know how knowing certain people might make or break whether you name your kid that, well I just remember how cute she was with her beautiful blonde hair and she was really the only Lauren I knew, so I felt okay about naming mine that! It was fun to read some of what's been going on with you guys.By the way, Jumpin Jacks is really fun! I got the mom and me month pass so me and the two little ones have something to do when Kade is in school. They have loved it. Take care and I'll have to drop in again soon.
