Swashbuckling Fun!

Today was my last official activity for our schools read-a-thon. I took on this project because I thought, "Hey, that looks like fun and how hard can it be". For the record, it was fun, but it was a TON of work and took me waaaayyyyy out of my comfort zone, like soliciting donations and putting on TWO assemblies where I had to speak in front of the whole school. But I really did enjoying working on it and had some fantastic moms who worked on it with me. So we started in January and finished yesterday with the final activity.

We had a pirate theme and had this guy who dressed up like Jack Sparrow come to our first assembly and get the kids excited about reading (Theme was "Find Treasures in Reading, The Adventure Awaits"). Anyway, he promised the kids if they made their goal he'd come back with his replica of the "Black Pearl". So after many attempts to schedule it (weather, conflicts, illness, etc.) yesterday, was the day. I wish I had a video to show just how AMAZING this guy is, but pictures will have to suffice. His movements, his actions, the way he talks, the sound of his voice. He is incredible. The kids loved it and I can now breathe a sigh of relief that it is finally all over.

Just a funny side note, one of our teachers is in his ward where he is their Sunday School teacher. She said sometimes when he is at the front teaching, he has some of the mannerisms of Jack Sparrow and it makes her giggle.

Michelle, you did an awesome job! This is one of those times I wish we lived closer! I would have loved to have been there and have a picture taken too! He sounds awesome! I hope the kids remember that for a long time! Great job! :o)

Sunday School would be infinitely more interesting if Jack Sparrow were teaching, too bad I'd probably still be stuck in the nursery...

I still think that guy who dressed up like Lightning McQueen last year looked more like Lightning McQueen than this guy looked like Jack Sparrow...but that's just me.
