Daddy - Daughter Date
Chris and Lauren have a yearly Christmas tradition of attending the Nutcracker Ballet together. It started when she was about 4 and decided that she really liked Nutcrackers. She was obsessed with them and we collected quite a few that year. Chris thought it would be fun to take her to the Ballet. So every year since then, they dress up nice and go to a local production, trying a new one each time. Afterward, they stop by Starbucks and get a cookie and hot cocoa. We also purchase a new nutcracker every year too. Were up to 12. Our favorite is the large one in the picture. It has become one of Lauren's favorite traditions and is her special night with daddy.

That is soooo sweet! :o)Is Lauren going to let McKenna join the daddy daughater date with Chris next year? Or does she like the Nutcracker?
What is it about age four and nutcrackers? LaRue is OBSESSED with them this year. She watches about four different versions, and has a nutcracker ornament and a twelve inch nutcracker that have taken so much abuse, I mean love, they're both missing an arm apiece are nigh unrecognizable. Now I feel unbelievably lame for not getting her to an actual show, we'll see how she feels about it next year. I love Lauren and Chris' annual date tradition, it melts my cold grinchy heart.
No, McKenna isn't going to join. We talked about whether we should or not, but this is Lauren's special date. Last year, Chris took McKenna to the circus and that might be their special date. Aside from that, McKenna really hates movies, theaters, dark places and anything remotely intense. She probably wouldn't sit through it and would beg to go home. She LOVED the circus though and got to ride an elephant. She was in heaven!
That is so much fun. That is how most meaningful traditions start--with an idea.
That's so sweet and I love the pictures of each year. Kaleb was the same way about nutcrakers about that same age :)
