Random Thoughts Taking Over My Mind

I had grand plans of setting some really killer goals for this year. I also thought I'd spice things up and try something new with my blog. I saw lots of cute ideas for projects other people were trying out on their blog. But when it comes right down to it, I just haven't had time. The kids have been home for two solid weeks, and I can't get anything done or keep anything clean. Which leads me to my first point.

Ramble #1: New Years - I really hate this holiday. It is really only fun if you like to party, have no kids and can celebrate with friends. Otherwise, its pretty boring. Since I don't really party much (and by party, I mean hang out with other grown ups), I have kids that insist on being part of the whole experience now, and can't really celebrate with friends (see first two reasons). I also seem to have no problem staying up past midnight on normal evenings when I am doing chores or catching up on my DVR'd shows, but on Dec. 31st it is always a struggle. Here's how our night played out:

I did some cleaning, washing, puttering around, etc. while Chris kept busy with the kids. At approximately 4 minutes before midnight, Chris asks if we don't have some fun New Years hats and noisemakers. Um, no. Then as we are counting down and watching the big ball drop (while enduring uncomfortable cut-aways to Dick Clark...I'm sorry, but its just creepy now. I know he's a trooper, but know when to say enough is enough.) Back to the story, anyway, at about 7 seconds before midnight, the DVR switches over to a program I had set to record...on a station we apparently don't get anyway...and we miss the ball trying to get back to the right station. Oops. Happy New Year every one. Thankfully some nice friends dropped off a bottle of "bubbly-making" (that's for my Pretty friends out there) apple cider and we toasted to 2009. Within 10 minutes we were at complete meltdown stage and were packing kids off to bed faster than you can say goodnight. I hate New Years.

Ramble #2: While the kids were out of school, I had grand plans of lots of sledding, play dates all around, enjoying the snow we got over Christmas and relaxing. HA! Lauren got strep throat and was sick for a week. Worried that the other kids might come down with it any minute, we sequestered ourselves inside and had no contact with the outside world for a week. Can you say, "Cabin Fever"? I can.

Never fear though, school is now back in session and order has been restored....except for this next item which leads me to...

Ramble #3: I am not OK with this people. It is JANUARY 5th!!!

Ok, so I am ok a little, because I really do enjoy a Cadbury Egg now and again. But Easter? Are you serious?

Well, there. My mind feels a little less crowded now.

Oh my gosh, EASTER candy? I thought Valentine's candy would be out, but Easter?! It's too much!

I loved the New Year's recap. Hilarious! New Year's Eve is hard as adults with kids. Even though we happened to be with family and our kids were asleep, it's funny how you kind of putter around until it's 5 minutes before midnight and then try to sneak in a party. By that time, everyone is pretty ready for it to be midnight already!

I had a good laugh over that one! Not funny that kids were sick. But the celebrating New Years, it's 'over rated'! Somehow when you are a youngster, you think it is sooo cool to stay up and say that you rang in the New Year! Wait until they grow up and then they'll say...'It's over rated!'

They had Valentine's Day things up the day after Christmas here! Are the stores pushing things just a little? I'd say so! Monopolize on Easter since Christmas had a hard time with the weather and all!

I totally agree with you on Dick Clark. Time to let someone else do it. Happy New Year!

LOL. Pretty much the only thing I like about New Year's is getting paid time-and-a-half! :)

Have you read the Uglies seres? I LOVE it! How did you like it?
