Turned out like this...

Nothing close to red. I knew this would happen but since everything about these cupcakes turned out wrong, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I went to Costco hoping I could special order their cupcakes with Red and/or Black frosting instead of the white they normally use. That was my plan until two days ago when they said no. Then I had to go to plan B. Since the Costco cupcakes are so big, I had purchased Jr. Mints to put all over them for ladybug spots. Plan B was to make my own. I wanted to make them into cute ladybugs, sort of like on the box above, but cuter, but I ran out of time. When I went to decorate the cupcakes, at 11:30 last night, I realized I didn't have enough Jr. Mints. And they were smaller so the Jr. Mints didn't look right and since I only had enough for 3 on each cupcake, they turned out looking like pink blobs with Olives. Not very ladybug like or appetizing. That was the worst part of the party, ugly cupcakes. Lucky for me, 6 year olds don't care.

Your cupcakes turned out so cute! I wish they made a tryue red food color that actually turned out RED!
I'm sorry they didn't turn out how you wanted. That's how it's gone with EVERY cake that I've tried making by myself for the past six years, it's so disappointing. But at least cake (cupcakes) tend to still taste pretty good even if they don't look quite how we hoped. Mmmm, cake.
They look great Michelle! I can never make red frosting. Never! Rachie had a ladybug party for her first bday and the cake was bright pink. Her Elmo cupcakes the next year were about the same color of bright pink, lol!
