This week was a busy week at school. I spent most of the day down at the school helping out in Lauren's class for their "Indian Day". The 4th grade has been studying Native Americans and it culminated in a cultural day filled with activities. The kids were encouraged to dress-up and spent the day working on projects such as weaving, building Teepees, Canoes, Wigwams, Pueblos, Totems, Sand Art, making beaded bracelets, headdresses & more. It was a fun day and Brooklynn, who came with me, had a blast. She got to go to the stations with Lauren and make several projects. It was a ton of work on the teachers part, but I think the kids all had a good time. I was surprised at how popular the weaving was with the boys! I never want to see a loom again!

Tyler also had a big day. The 6th grade has been studying Egypt and really has enjoyed it. Today was the big "Egyptian Funeral". All the kids got to pick a God or Goddess and dress up. They wrapped up one of their classmates as a mummy and then paraded through the school. When they were done they had a big Feast which wasn't so much a real feast as a big party with Egyptian activities and snacks. They had a great time and were all very excited for this day. It's a pretty big deal in 6th grade. We worked pretty hard this past couple of weeks making sure the kids had their costumes all ready.

Wowzer! I am so impressed with the costumes! Lauren is a very pretty indian 'princess'! Even though her costume was indian, she looks like an indian princess! :o) Tyler's costume is fantastic! His whole class, the costumes are fantastic! That was a lot of work for both parents and their children and the teachers! I hope they will remember this for a long time! I'm glad Brooklynn had such a great time! :o)
Wow! Those costumes are amazing! They both look like it was a lot of fun (and work) but what a great experience.
Great job Michelle!
I wish I got to do fun things like that when I was in school.
May Day seems more like, Meh Day to me now.
By the way, who was the lucky kid that got to be the mummy? ;-)
WOW! Those costumes are amazing! I just about had a heart attack realizing this will be my life in a few years, and I am not ready for it! You are so good!
Fun! For the kids I mean, I'm not sure I'll be excited about making those kinds of costumes for school activities. What can I say? I'm a lazy mom, plus I'm all the time tired, these two things do not bode well for my kids. Maybe when they're older I'll have more energy? Maybe? Well, I think you and Chris are amazing, and your kids look so cute in their costumes!
Oh and Julie, Meh Day? That's borderline blasphemy coming from an Aikahi graduate!
You did soo good on those costumes, great job Michelle!
