Fall Break

Last week we had Thursday & Friday off for UEA/Fall Break. We didn't have any huge plans but it wouldn't have mattered anyway since McKenna was sick on Wednesday evening/Thursday. By Friday afternoon she was feeling better and we were all suffering from cabin fever so we decided to go ahead with our plans to hike with some friends, the Tuckers and Blackwells. It was a gorgeous fall day and the scenery was beautiful. We decided on a pretty kid friendly hike up Provo canyon called Big Springs that had been recommended by our friends, one of which had taken a stroller. I said any "hike" that was stroller friendly was a hike for me! Well, I don't know what kind of 4-wheelin' stroller she has, but it was a little more intense than I was prepared for. It was probably good I didn't know what we were in for because I might have chickened out going by myself and with the 3 year old. All-in-all we made it and had a really good time. It was 3.5 miles and Brooklynn even walked most of it. Tyler and I took turns carrying her here and there but she walked most of it. The rest of the day and the next she kept telling me, "Mom, my legs are killing me"! McKenna showed NO signs of post-sick weariness and blazed the trail with her friends Morgan and Max. We had to keep yelling at them to slow down and wait for the old people. Lauren and Tyler took lots of pictures to enter in the Reflections program at school. Brooklynn was quite the collector and stopped literally every 3 seconds to grab another leaf or rock. Needless to say we were the last ones down the trail. It was nice to get out and enjoy nature and have some fun. We'll most definitely have to do it again.

Here the kids are ready to go: Morgan in front, Micah, Brooklynn, McKenzie, Lauren, Tyler, McKenna, Max and Isabel. (Joseph & Malia aren't pictured because they are nicely nestled on the backs of their parents.)

The kids found a wilderness teeter-totter.

We stopped at the top of the Springs for a little break and a snack.

We found a large beaver dam on the way up.

Ha! Love the "wildnerness" seesaw :)
Totally regretting that I opted for naptime instead, grr.
