Awards Assembly

Thursday we headed to the awards assembly. Both Lauren and McKenna were recognized for completing the school reading challenge, the "Hall of Fame". The older they get, the harder it is to complete one, so Lauren was able to finish "1" and McKenna completed "6"! McKenna was also the top reader for all of Second Grade and received a medal. She was also the top reader in First Grade and Kindergarten, and hopes to continue all the way through 6th grade. What a great goal.
Lauren also worked very hard to earn the "Talon's Feather" award. This award requires several hours of service that must be completed during school hours, memorizing some important quotes, memorizing some American history, participating in extra curricular activities and writing an essay on what it means to be a contributing member of society. Lauren worked a lot this year with the special ed class and was well liked by the students and the teachers. They all told me how much the kids looked up to her and how much they appreciated her kindness and help. She really enjoyed it and hopes to be able to help out again next year. This is her second year earning this award and if she earns it next year, will receive a special award for earning it all three years.
