In third grade the students study habitats and get to put together a big report on a habitat (Ocean, Desert, Pond, Arctic, Rain Forest, etc.) They have to do a written report and some kind of visual 3-D display. Lauren chose the Arctic and had lots of fun researching her report. She did a really good job. We couldn't find any Arctic animals in the toys stores around here so we weren't able to go with our original idea and moved on to plan B. She was really fascinated by icebergs so she did a couple of experiments with ice. She made an iceberg and showed how only 10% of the iceberg is actually above water. Then she demonstrated how ice melts with salt and food coloring. She might be stained blue for a while but she had fun.

Tyler has been practicing with the 5th grade for a program called "Hope of America". It is a patriotic/musical program where the kids learn songs about things like the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, voting and sing them. We went last night to the Marriott Center at BYU to watch. It was a pretty cool presentation. We sat about 2 or 3 rows from the ceiling so we didn't have the best seats so the pictures aren't the best. We were able to pick him out though thanks to a kid in his class with very distinguishing hair! He had a lot of fun and now that I know he can actually sing...he better watch out in primary!
