Guptill Family Reunion - Day 1 (Amazing Race)

After we went roller skating and had lunch, we headed back to my Grandma's house for a Guptill style Amazing Race. My cousins did such a great job putting the race together. We all had SOOO much fun. I was sad when it was over. We all divided up into teams and then were handed our packet with our clues. We were to take a picture at each place proving that we actually did what we were supposed to. Then, we were off!

Clue #1: We had to go to the "End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center" and hold our own wheelbarrow race. Quintin and Zack on the left, Tyler and Brooklynn on the right.

Clue #2: Eastham School Baseball Fields. My grandpa used to coach a little league team so we had to play a quick game of baseball. Here is Brooklynn batting.

Clue #3: We had to go to my Grandpa's grave and write down a favorite memory of him from each team member. Then the memories were presented to my Grandma for her birthday.

Clue #4: We had to go to this set of stairs that connects the lower part of the city to the upper part and count the number of stairs. I can't remember now but I think it was around 172-ish.

Clue #5: We were given a dollar and had to go to a local bakery that's been in business since the 30's and buy a maple bar (something it's famous for) and share it with all the team members. We got a little competitive on this one as we ran into another team (Team Newby) and tried to slow them down. First, we tried to put the closed sign up, then we tried to buy all the maple bars in the store...but they had a lot. And they were SOOOO yummy!

Clue #6: This one took us the Oregon City Elevator. The only "vertical" street in North America! Take that! We had to look at the pictures in the hall that tell the history of the elevator. Then ride it up and see the view.

Clue #7: This one took us to the High School Football field where we were each assigned one letter in our family name, GUPTILL. Unfortunately, after we all got back...nobody got the packet with the "G"! We were the "U"....which if you know what "Y" fans we are, didn't sit very well with us.
___ U P T I L L
(use your imagination)

Clue #8: This one took us up to the Family History Library where my Grandma has worked for as long as I can remember. There we each had to help tie a quilt for my Grandma and sign a card.

Then it was a race to the finish (back to Grandma's) to find out who won.

And guess who won? WE DID!!! Team Gleed won! We actually beat the race coordinators so there wasn't any fanfare. But later that night, we did win our $1 Million Dollar Prize....10 chocolate 100,000 grand bars! Here we are getting our prize.
Here are some pictures of two of the other teams...because they have my other kids. My sisters and I all split up and took some of each others kids.

Team Ward (Julie, Lauren, Brynnly, Kallie and Braxton
Team Newby (Jordan, Lisa, LaRue, Matilda, Adelaide and McKenna)

Thanks again Angie and company. We had so much fun...and not just because we won!

That really was fun, thanks again Angie and Co.! I like your recap Michelle, poor Team Newby, no maple bars:( That's okay, we're not sticklers, so we enjoyed our sprinkled donut and our third place;)
