Guptill Family Reunion - Day 2 (Tillamook)

On day two of the reunion everyone packed up and headed West to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Aside from a *near-death experience, the day was perfect! We used to frequent the cheese factory often when we lived in Oregon and always try to make it there on vacation.
Our family of dairy farmers.

First we took the little self-guided tour to watch them make the cheese. We've been through it many times but the kids always seem to still be interested in it. Not me, get me to the ice cream!
Brooklynn finds a cow to pose with.
After the tour we headed downstairs to sample all the cheese. Then we strolled around the gift shop to pick up some goodies like chocolate milk and cheese curds! Mmmmm.

The last stop is the ice cream parlor. We LOVE Tillamook ice cream. Since moving to Utah we have been seriously deprived. In years past we would bring a cooler and buy dry ice and bring a bunch home. But now, thanks to our new Winco, we can have it whenever we want. Yippee! I highly recommend you go out and buy some, NOW! My favorites are the Chocolate/Peanut Butter and Udderly Chocolate (formerly Brown Cow). I think I need to make a Winco run. This is my niece Tillie (Matilda) or as I think of her in this picture, "Tillamook Tillie". That could be me with my ice cream. It's that good.

All in all it was a yummy adventure. After the cheese factory we headed to the beach. More to come on that in the next post.

*So since I guess you can't say near-death experience without going into some detail, I shall explain. Tillamook is about 1 1/2 hours away from my Grandma's on a windy, mostly 2-lane highway through a coastal mountain range. There is a lot of logging in this area. About half way there I remembered that we forgot to say morning prayers before we left. So we took a minute and had prayers in the car. About 10 minutes later, a logging truck cut across our lane right in front of us on a semi-blind corner and nearly killed us. Had we been there 3 seconds sooner, we would have been killed. There wouldn't be any thing we could have done. As it was, we had just enough time to slam on the brakes. We weren't speeding and it was completely his fault. It was pretty scary and we felt like it was a direct answer to our prayer for safety offered just a few minutes before. It left us pretty shaken for the remainder of the drive. We feel very blessed that we made it safely and were protected.

ditto to what julie said, I had great plans to document it all in great detail but it turns out I'm more than kinda lazy:/
I'm also really glad that you weren't killed in a grizzly car accident on the way to a fun filled day at the beach. Close calls make me sad:( Gleeds make me happy:)
